The game is based on The Dog Island, in which the player controls a dog or cat through environments while completing tasks. Jacob Kaufman composed the soundtrack for these games. The Wii versions of Petz Dogz 2 and Petz Catz 2 (Catz and Dogz in Europe) were originally released in Japan under the name Kitten And The Magic Hat (Catz 2) & Puppy And The Magic Hat. There are various other characters, such as Victor, a friend of the player character, Gertrude, who runs the medicine shop known as the "Drug Store", Kenneth, who runs a Zoo, Stanley, a carpenter, and many others. The player goes on an adventure to stop an evil wolf named Ivlet from causing chaos on the island, and eventually destroying the world.

Ivlet's fate after this point is left unknown.Unlike the PC and DS versions, the Wii and PlayStation 2 versions of the games are adventure games, so instead of taking care of a virtual pet, the player plays as a dog or cat who lives in a southern half of a village called Pawville, on a large island. The player, Theophilus, and Bartholomew fortunately make an escape back to Sky Heights when the Dimensional Rift starts to collapse. A vortex suddenly appears and it sucks Ivlet in. Once the player successfully defeats Ivlet, the wolf returns back to his normal state. His health system consists of pink hearts, strangely flipped upside-down. Right after, he will howl and teleport to a different location. He will run towards and perform a diving attack at the player once they exit a shield. Like the Chaotic Dragon, his sensitivity level is the highest out of any enemy. He normally walks around in a circle when the player hides in one of the magic shields. To defeat Ivlet, Beat informs that the player will need to first throw a stone at him, then bark/screech, and repeat this method 4 more times. Outraged, Ivlet faces off against the player himself, jumps up to stand in midair, and lets out a menacing howl. By throwing stones at it, the dragon collapses an disappears. The player fights against the Chaotic Dragon first. The Magic Hat has turned black at this point going forward. In response to this, Ivlet takes on a much more ferocious appearance as well as summons the Chaotic Dragon as a minion. Once the player returns to Sky Heights and Bartholomew reunites with Theophilus, the three work together to use the Earth, Water and Ice crystals as ingredients for constructing the Magic Shield, and preparing for an upcoming final battle. Once the player reaches Bartholomew, they receive the Tornado Ring from him, in which it can seal up all the whirlwinds via throwing a stone at them. He makes a brief return in Lonesome Park, where he creates four massive whirlwinds that the player must pass and reach Gongoro Peak. Ivlet later casts a spell over Monolith Isle, in which the island is left facing an eternal night, until the player searches for the Magic Mirror, an item that is able to undo the effects of the spell and allow the sun to rise up again. In some cutscenes, Ivlet spies on the player while the Magic Hat is a much greyer shade. When the player eventually reaches Sky Heights, Theophilus explains the potential consequences of Ivlet's continued usage of the Magic Hat: The more he uses it for evil purposes, the darker the hat will change, and more evil energy will build up inside him until he finally becomes "pure evil" and threatens to destroy the world itself. This is later rectified when the player finds Apollo's Flower in Dolphin Coast and places it on the central flowerbed. He unleashes a seemingly endless rainstorm upon the village. When everything in South Pawville had gotten fully repaired thanks to the help of the player, Ivlet reappears, scaring the civilians. This is soon fixed when the player dips the Warm Stone into a hot spring, then thaws out the waterfall with the Hot Stone. This overall leads to the player being forced to help the village's residents and repair everything in the process.Īt one point, Ivlet freezes a great majority of the water that runs through Whisker Woods. He also casts a spell on several animals in the Zoo as well as Jade Fields, leaving them to escape and become hostile. Ivlet begins to wrecks havoc upon Pawville via throwing destructive purple balls of fire. From this point on, Ivlet does not have any lines of dialogue throughout the rest of the game. He quickly swipes and wears the hat, enabling him to easily escape prison. The wolf takes advantage of the moment, by letting the player push it closer. Ivlet later tricks the player into bringing the hat in, as a means to prove to him that it does exist. After the player completes several quests in Dolphin Coast and South Pawville, the two encounter Ivlet once again at night, where this time he wakes up and has a conversation with them, initially questioning the existence of the Magic Hat at first. Victor and the player first meet him sleeping during the beginning of the game's story.
